Celebrate the 55th Annual Christmas in Newport, a beloved city-wide tradition that honors the historic and non-commercial spirit of the holiday season. Founded in 1971 as a two-week festival, the event has grown into a month-long celebration filled with daily activities throughout December.

This community-driven tradition brings together residents, local businesses, and the City of Newport to illuminate downtown, the harbor, the wharves, and historic neighborhoods such as the Point, Historic Hill, and Bellevue Avenue. Thousands of clear, sparkling lights—designed to evoke soft candlelight—carry on the vision of founder Ruth Myers, who sought to recreate the timeless glow of classic holiday celebrations.
