WaterFire 2016 - Providence, RI

All full WaterFire installations light up over eighty braziers from Waterplace Park to Memorial/South Main Street Park. Partial lightings usually include all of the braziers from Providence Place Mall to Steeple Street. Lighting occurs shortly after sunset and the event continues until half past midnight. Food vendors will be located on Washington, College and Steeple Streets.

Newport Gallery Night - Newport, RI

Many galleries are open to browsers. A brochure and map are available and useful as a guide during the evening gallery exploration and for daytime visiting. During Gallery Nights, free parking is available during Newport Gallery Night in the downtown area at the Visitors Bureau, 23 America's Cup Avenue, and at the Newport Art Museum, 76 Bellevue Avenue. Gallery Night is held the second Thursday of each month.

Every third Thursday of the month, from March to November, galleries across Providence open their doors to the public in the evening. People may consult the online guide and map and explore on their own. Alternately, guided tours via bus begin at 5:30 and leave every 20 minutes. The final art bus of the evening leaves at 6:50 pm Tours stop at approximately four galleries each and run about two hours. Limited free parking available at the Regency on Gallery Night. On-street parking is free after 6 p.m. Map.

“Do Lord Remember Me: The Black Church in RI” - Providence, Woonsocket, Newport, RI

“Do Lord Remember Me: The Black Church in Rhode Island” features photographs, drawings and text that document the past 250 years of faith in Rhode Island’s black community. The exhibition explores the many incarnations of faith in the black community, from headstone carvings and spiritual relics to gospel and chamber music.
The exhibit opens October 11 at 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 75 North Main St., Providence, with a keynote address by Rev. Doris Hooks and a gospel tribute by Opera Providence. The exhibit is at First Baptist Church October 11 to 15; at Woonsocket’s Museum of Work and Culture October 16 to 24; and at Redwood Library and Athenaeum in Newport October 24 to November 14.
