2024 Eclipse

SUNsational Eclipse Family Fun Days and Watch Party – Providence RI

Apr 6, 2024 - Apr 8, 2024 Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Providence, RI

On April 6 and 7 there will be family fun and special planetarium show at 2 p.m. each day in preparation for the partial solar eclipse on April 8. On April 6 and 7, programming is free with museum admission; planetarium show tickets must be purchased online.
On Monday, April 8, the museum will host a free watch party for the partial solar eclipse. The eclipse starts at 2:25 p.m. and peaks at 3:30 p.m. Enjoy hands-on activities and more. Each family visiting on April 8 will receive a free pair of eclipse viewing glasses. This community event includes free admission to the museum.

Blithewold Home-School Days 2024 – Bristol RI

On the last Tuesday of each month through May, there will be fun (and educational) hands-on learning at Blithewold estate. This year they will offer programs in science, history, and art. Each month, the estate will begin by collecting data for Cornell University’s Lab of Orthinology to help scientists track changes in bird populations across the globe. Indoor and outdoor learning experiences in science, history, and the arts complete the curriculum, which aligns with RI, MA, and CT state standards. Between sessions, there is plenty of time to enjoy a nice picnic or run out some energy on the Great Lawn. The programs are designed for Ages 8 – 13. Adult chaperone required. Class size is limited to 15. Reservations are required. Monthly Program Topics: January: Textiles; February: Family Tree; March: Tea Etiquette; April: Architecture;  May: Science of Kites. Dates: Jan. 30, Feb. 27, March 26, April 30, and May 28.

Camouflage Egg Hunt With RI Audubon – Bristol and Smithfield RI

Try something new with your children for this year’s Easter egg hunt. Kids will hunt for brown eggs in a natural setting and quickly learn how well the eggs camouflage. Prizes are awarded to all children. Please bring a basket for eggs. The Camouflaged Egg Hunt will be held rain or shine, so children should dress for the weather. Advance registration is required. Children, ages 3-10. This happens at the same date and time at two audubon locations, in Briston and in Smithfield.

Organized by the RI Land Trust Council, this great event for adults, families and kids challenges people to explore hiking traisl throguhout the state. Hidden along 34 trails are steel sculptures inspired by nature. Each cunning creature has a QR code for you to scan and track your progress, and when you have found all 34 you will be eigible for prizes.
