Family-friendly programs educate and entertain in and along Narragansett Bay

On land and sea, you can’t beat the family activities offered by the nonprofit Save The Bay organization. Among the family-friendly public programs led by trained educators and naturalists to connect the community to the bay all year long are seal-watch and nature cruises, ranging from one to one-and-three-quarters hours, and daylong lighthouse tours that motor by up to 20 lighthouses and include lunch and exploration at Rose Island. At the very interactive Exploration Center and Aquarium in Newport, three touch tanks and dozens of exhibits get you up close and personal to skates, dogfish sharks, urchins, crabs, lobsters, seahorses and turtles – all in all, more than 40 species from the bay and Rhode Island waters.
Boat tours depart from Newport, Westerly, and Providence RI.
