Newport Arboretum Week hosts many events that invite the public to meet, understand, and appreciate this historic city’s magnificent arboretums.
April 24
Flower Power: Floriculture, Floral Designers and Car Follies in the Gilded Age at Salve Regina University – Historian John Tschirch explores the floral extravaganzas of the age, including rose draped garden follies and one of the most spectacular hydrangea-laden parades of the era. 6 p.m.
April 25
Tree Walk at The Arboretum at Salve Regina University — The campus tree walk will guide visitors through a curated loop of distinct tree specimens of the arboretum. The tour will begin at the Wakehurst property gate at Leroy & Ochre Point Avenues. 11:30 a.m.
April 26
Tree Walks at Frederick Law Olmsted Park & Arboretum next to the National Museum of American Illustration — Enjoy a free guided tour of the highlights of the Frederick Law Olmsted Park & Arboretum. Walks at 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Lighting of the Trees Celebration & Illuminated Trolley Tours from Newport Elks Lodge on April 26 — Illuminated Trolley Tours will offer spectacular views of Newport’s illuminated historic tree canopy. Trolley tours depart at 8:30 p.m., 8:45 p.m., 9:15 p.m., 9:30 p.m.

Sidewalk Parade, Tree Path Opening & Hope Tree Planting — The Sidewalk Parade of Hope will wind its way along the sidewalks of Newport, with costumes, music, and dance as it departs from the Florence Gray Center, past 20 decorated trees, ending at Miantonomi Park. 12:30 -3 p.m.
April 28 Newport Trolley Tree Tour at Salve Regina University — Join Christopher Fletcher of Bartlett Tree Experts on a fascinating tour of to some of the more unique and specialty trees found in the various arboreta in Newport. The trolley departs at 10 a.m. from the Antone Academic Center on Lawrence/Leroy Avenue. 9:30 a.m.

Pawcatuck River Duck Race 2019

Apr 27, 2019 - Apr 27, 2019 Main and Mechanic streets, Westerly, RI

In spectacular fashion, 20,000 rubber ducks are released off the Westerly-Pawcatuck Bridge for a race down the Pawcatuck River. Forty-one schools and non-profit organizations raise money for their worthy causes. Duck games, face painting, food and other activities make it a wonderful family event.

Frederick Law Olmsted Park and Arboretum Tree Walk - Newport, RI

The National Museum of American Illustration hosts this walk, at the property next door to the museum. The Frederick Law Olmsted Park and Arboretum, home to four Rhode Island Champion Trees. In 1886, Frederick Law Olmsted designed the grounds of the former, three-acre Stoneacre estate. The mansion was demolished in 1963, but the grounds remain as a memorial to Frederick Law Olmsted, and the Park is the last open space on Bellevue Avenue.
