Marsh Mucking with the Nature Conservancy

Kids love splashing and squishing and mucking about at the Marsh Mucking walks, with the Nature Conservancy. A Nature Conservancy staffer meets the group on the beach and takes you on a scavenger hunt through the salt marsh. It’s all about the thrill of discovery. Monday mornings at 9 a.m.

Blackstone Valley Explorer Riverboat Tours 2018

Take a relaxing and informative riverboat tour on The Explorer and discover Providence Harbor, and the Seekonk and Pawtucket rivers. Pass through the Fox Point hurricane barrier and catch great views of the Providence skyline. The tours travel further upriver toward Pawtucket, with views of a changing landscape and eastern shore birds.
Dock locations are Al’s Waterfront Restaurant, 28 Water Street, East Providence, from July 1 to August 5;
Festival Pier, 100 Tim Healey Way, Pawtucket, from August 12 to September 9;
Cold Spring Park, 101 Katherine Rd., Woonsocket, from September 16 to October 21.
Online tickets sales are available until the evening before each trip. Day-of ticket sales are available at the dock.

Rhode Island International Film Festival 2018

This popular film festival regularly showcases more than 250 films — many of which are world or North American premieres — at various venues around the state. Highlights in recent years have included a film scavenger hunt, dinner-and-a-movie screenings, outdoor screenings, the Rhode Island Film Forum, workshops, and a celebration of kids’ films. Concerts Under the Elms 2018

This outdoor music series happens under the lofting elms trees on the side yard of a historic house. A food truck is available at every concert, or you may bring your own picnic dinner. In case of inclement weather, check www.rihs.org or call 401-331-8575 ext. 133 after 1:30 p.m. the day of the concert.

WaterFire 2018

WaterFire centers around a series of nearly 100 bonfires that blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of downtown Providence. The string of fires illuminates nearly two-thirds of a mile of urban public spaces and parks, as residents and visitors gather to stroll along the river, listening to music and watching performances.

Twilight Walk & Night Sky Viewing at Hodge Preserve

The Hodge Preserve is a 25-acre field that slopes to Middle Pond and West Beach. Naturalist Kim Gaffett will lead walks through the meadow and teach guests about Block Island’s environment and eco-systems, followed by a break for stargazing at the night sky. Bring a flashlight, insect repellent, and blanket or beach chair and meet in the Preserve’s small parking lot along Corn Neck Road. Night sky viewing dates: June 30, August 3, and August 24.
