Rhode Island family friendly lodging, hotels, resorts welcome kids

Since Rhode Island is a vacation paradise with lots of outdoor and indoor attractions and entertainments, it follows that RI hotels, motels, and lodgings are family friendly. Accommodations in every price range place children and families close to fun adventures like the Newport and South County beaches, Roger Williams Park and Zoo and the Providence Children’s Museum, and the many warm-weather festivals, from dragon boats in Woonsocket to seafood in Charlestown, that take place throughout the year.

Families can kick back and relax (or not!) at this luxury resort by the sea

Families are front and center at the Ocean House resort, perched high on the bluffs of Watch Hill. With its seaside location, the resort offers a variety of activities at its 650-foot private white-sand beach (with beach butler). You can learn to surf or paddleboard (or just enjoy the water!). There’s also an indoor saltwater lap pool. Other activities include croquet and lawn games, a putting green and shuffleboard court and movies. For kids 5 to 10 years old, there’s Sand Castles, where youngsters are involved in everything from hikes and scavenger hunts to team-building activities and arts and craft projects. Oh, and, Mom and Dad: The resort does have babysitting services. Just in case.

Family fun a specialty at this resort perched on the Rhode Island shore

Families love Weekapaug Inn, and it’s not hard to see why. At its cozy, home-away-from-home location on the Rhode Island shoreline overlooking Quonochontaug Pond, the inn emphasizes eclectic activities on land and sea. On the water, go with the inn’s naturalist on a crabbing excursion, grab a kayak or paddleboard (or kite!) and enjoy the inn’s private beach (don’t forget lunch on the Bathhouse deck), hang out in the outdoor saline lap pool or take a boat tour on the Quonnie Queen. On land, the inn’s sweeping, grassy back lawn is perfect for croquet (or just rolling around) and a kids’ program offers everything from scavenger hunts and hikes to team-building fun and arts and crafts.
