Holiday Open House -- Tiverton

Various shops and galleries at Tiverton four Corners will host tastings, art openings. and children’s activities. Events include story telling for children at Little Purls children's clothing store on Saturday, 10:30 a.m.; a drop-in kids’ activity at Roseberry-Winn Pottery; Make Your Own Ornament at The Tiverton Four Corners Art Center for children ages 6-12. Arrival of Santa Claus – Westerly

Santa Claus, “Winter Lady”, and other holiday characters will be making their debut via fire trucks to bring in the holiday season. Free coloring books and lollipops will be handed out to all children in attendance. Santa and friends will greet the children. Holiday music will be provided by WBLQ. Come out and join us at this traditional holiday event. In case of inclement weather, Santa’s Arrival will be held at The Westerly Armory. Location: Westerly Post Office, High Street. Santa at the Zoo – Providence
November 28, 2009
Santa will make his grand entrance (by helicopter.) for the first of many appearances at Roger Williams Zoo. Santa's exciting arrival will be complemented by a flurry of holiday festivities, including caroling, gifts for the animals and more. See Santa arrive at 9:15 a.m. and join him in a lively procession through the Zoo to Alice's Restaurant, where he'll give his season's greetings to the crowd. Then, enjoy all the other holiday activities from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Santa will be back to sing some carols and close out the festivities at 12:05 p.m. Location: Activities are included with Zoo admission. Downtown Holiday Festival -- Providence

As a guest of the Providence Preservation Society, visit some of the most distinctive and extraordinary residential and commercial spaces in downtown Providence, many not open to the public except during this tour. After touring, join Mayor David Cicilline for his traditional tree lighting at 6 p.m. in front of City Hall. Following the tree lighting, and starting at 6:30 p.m., enjoy the After-Tour Celebration sponsored by Lite Rock 105. Christmas at the Newport Mansions -- Newport
Now through January 3, 2010
Christmas at the Newport Mansions -- Newport Spectacular decorations will soon deck the halls of The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House, as The Preservation Society of Newport County hosts Christmas at the Newport Mansions. Holiday music, tours, book and ornament signings, special shopping days, a holiday dinner dance and visits from Santa Claus will bring the season to life at three of America's grandest historic houses. Three Houses Open Daily
The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House will be decorated and open daily for tours, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. A Winter Passport ticket providing daytime admission to all three houses can be purchased for $28 for adults, $9 for children age 6-17.
Visits with Santa Claus
Children can visit with Santa Claus in a spectacular setting at each of the three mansions on Sundays in December. Santa will make public appearances at The Breakers on December 6 from noon to 3 p.m.; at Marble House on December 13, and The Elms on December 20.
Holiday Evenings at the Newport Mansions
This event is a special opportunity to see these historic houses lit up for a nightime celebration. Guests can take a leisurely self-guided tour through the mansion, enjoying live holiday music and a stop for cookies and pastries, eggnog and cider. Holiday Evenings at The Breakers are scheduled for November 28 and December 5, 12 and 26, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Preservation Society's annual Holiday Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday evening, December 19 at The Breakers. Reservations are required.

Holiday Selections 2009 -- Providence

For the holiday season, Bert Gallery has assembled a fine selection of artwork by local artists, both past and present. Many of the paintings are by noted Providence painters from the late 19th century. In addition, there is a special exhibit of vintage artist greeting cards for sale. For Gallery Night Providence on November 19 at 6:30 p.m., Wells Pile, a local printmaking enthusiast, will demonstrate the printing process from vintage woodblocks of Rhode Island artists.
