Blithewold Homeschool Days

Join us on the last Tuesday of each month, March through May, for hands-on, fun, and educational programs at Blithewold! Each session explores science, history, and art through indoor and outdoor activities designed to spark curiosity and learning. Our curriculum aligns with RI, MA, and CT state standards, making it both engaging and educational.

Activities include:
Jan 27: Learning about Herbs & Botany Games
Feb 24: Butler & Maid Tour
Mar 31: Phenology – The timing of nature’s cycles
Apr 28: How to Measure & Calculate the Value of Trees
May 26: Letterboxing Workshop

Students drop off for the program (ages 8–13), with one adult chaperone required to remain on the property for security. Don’t forget to bring lunch, water, and weather-appropriate clothing—we spend lots of time outdoors! Adult chaperones and younger siblings are welcome to picnic on the Grounds during lunch.

Between lessons, there’s time to explore the Great Lawn, run around, or enjoy a relaxing picnic, making each session a full day of learning and fun!

Discovery Tykes at the Museum of Natural History

For children ages 2–4 with a parent or caregiver—explore, sing, dance, and discover in this monthly preschool series at the Museum of Natural History in Roger Williams Park! Each session features age-appropriate stories, songs, poems, and crafts centered around fun science themes.

Blithewold Homeschool Days

Join Blithewold for a fun and educational hands-on learning series designed for curious kids ages 8–13. Each monthly session explores engaging topics across science, history, art, horticulture, environmental science, and climate change, with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Programs align with RI, MA, and CT state education standards, making learning both enriching and playful.

Between sessions, students can enjoy a picnic or burn off energy on the Great Lawn—a perfect blend of learning and fresh air.

Program Details:
  • 👧 Ages: 8–13 (drop-off program)
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Adult chaperone must remain on the property

Newport Burger Bender

Newport Burger Bender, the “best burger” contest is back. Local restaurants are throwing their buns in the ring with hopes of being crowned the Best Burger and there is more than just beef. Try one. Try Some. Try them all. Then vote for your favorite burger! Choose from over 50 beef, non-beef (seafood, chicken, bison, etc.), and plant-based burgers!  More information to come on 2026 participants! Newport Beer Festival

The Newport Beer Festival returns to the iconic Fort Adams State Park for an afternoon of tastings from 50+ hand-selected breweries and beverage producers from across New England and beyond. Sip your way through craft beers, ciders, seltzers, and more, paired with delicious food and interactive exhibitor experiences—all set against stunning waterfront views.

Newport Night Run - A Race for Education

The 11th Annual Grenon’s Newport Night Run invites runners and walkers of all ages and paces to light up the night on a scenic coastal 5K course under the stars. This after-dark run offers a rare chance to experience Newport’s streets in a whole new way—all while supporting a great cause.

Proceeds benefit the Newport Public Education Foundation, making every step you take part of something meaningful. Whether you’re racing, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, expect glowing lights, great energy, and an unforgettable night run for education.

Newport Rhode Races

Run along the iconic shores of the City-by-the-Sea at the Newport Rhode Races 2026, featuring a Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K set against Newport’s stunning springtime scenery. In partnership with Newport Daffodil Days, runners will “dash through the daffodils” as over one million blooms begin to light up the city—making this one of the most scenic race weekends of the season.

Whether you’re chasing a personal best or soaking in the coastal views, this race offers a truly unforgettable spring running experience. The marathon course is USATF-certified and a Boston Marathon Qualifier.

Race Start Times:
  • 🏃 Marathon – 7:30 AM
  • 🏃 Half Marathon – 7:45 AM
  • 🏃 5K – 8:15 AM
(All races start at Easton’s Beach)

Registration Fees:
  • Marathon: $110
  • Half Marathon: $85
  • 5K: $35 (Virtual registration available. Prices may increase after 12/31/25.)
Spectator Info:
Cheering someone on? Spectator shuttle tickets to Easton’s Beach are available for $5 per person from 6:30 AM – 1:30 PM.

In 2026, Rhode Race & Events celebrates its 10th year, with special events, guests, and swag planned throughout the year. The Newport Rhode Races are proudly Rhode Island DEM Green-Certified—please help protect Newport’s beautiful coastline by staying off the dunes and using recycling and trash receptacles.

Parades

70th Annual Newport Saint Patrick's Day Parade

The 70th Annual Newport Saint Patrick's Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday, March 1st 2026 at 11:00 AM. Find your best green attire, keep your eyes open for leprechauns, and join in the revelry to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Newport! The parade kicks off from the Newport City Hall and runs through Washington Square, down Thames Street, and ends at St. Augustine's Church. Parade will be held rain or shine.

Winter Bird Walks in Roger Williams Park

Join the Museum of Natural History for a winter birding adventure in Roger Williams Park! Spot feathered friends like woodpeckers, chickadees, finches, and hawks, and keep an eye on the ponds for wintering waterfowl that may surprise you.

Walks are suitable for all skill levels. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. Walks meet at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium. Pets and strollers are not permitted.
